Cyclone Buddies Make the World Go Round: Why Community Matters More Than Ever

Let’s be real—sometimes, the last thing you want to do is sit down and write. Today is one of those days for me.

It’s TC Alfred waiting day, and like the rest of Brisbane, I’m over it. The anticipation, the uncertainty—it’s like we’re collectively stuck in limbo. My nervous system is fried, my focus is shot, and I’ve cycled through every procrastination tool in my kit. You know that half-in, half-out feeling, where you’re not fully present in anything? Yeah, that.

But here’s the thing about life—it has a way of reminding you what truly matters, usually when you least expect it. And today, in the midst of my cyclone-induced funk, I got that reminder loud and clear.

Community: The Ultimate Lifeline

There’s something about extreme weather events that highlight the power of human connection. In times like this, when everything feels unsteady, we’re forced to remember that we’re not meant to do life alone.

Yet so many people out there are doing it alone—isolated, disconnected, and lonely. And it’s not always intentional. Life just happens. Work gets busy, priorities shift, and before you know it, your world shrinks down to emails, deadlines, and the four walls of your home.

But let me tell you—connection is everything.

Sometimes, all it takes is a small moment to shift your state. A text from a friend. A check-in call with a family member. A neighbour popping by just to say, hey, you good?

For me, that moment came when my dad called. I was mid-meltdown—half-working, half-mothering, half-cyclone prepping (yes, I know that maths doesn’t add up, but neither did my brain at that point). The energy in my house was snappy, unsettled, just off.

And then, my dad’s voice on the phone. A simple chat. Nothing deep, nothing groundbreaking—just the steady, familiar presence of someone who knows me inside out.

And suddenly, I felt it. A shift. The kind that reminds you to breathe.

The Power of Letting People In

That phone call was the catalyst. It made me realise how much I was holding in—exhaustion, stress, tension I hadn’t even named yet. And once I saw it, I could actually do something about it.

So, I reached out.

I invited my midwife friend over to stay—she needed a dry place to bunker down so she could still be there for the women she was supporting through birth. She showed up with chips and chocolate (because of course she did), and just like that, the energy shifted again.

Suddenly, my home didn’t feel like a pressure cooker anymore. Having another adult around, someone to share the load, to laugh with, to just be with—it changed everything. My daughter felt it too. She softened. I softened. And the whole vibe of our space lifted.

Because here’s the truth: We aren’t meant to do life in isolation.

Yes, alone time is great. Yes, personal space matters. But at our core, we are wired for connection. Even the most introverted of us need our people—our cyclone buddies, our life anchors, the ones who bring the snacks and the steady energy when we need it most.

Why Everyone Needs a Community

The older I get, the more I realise how crucial it is to intentionally build a support network.

Not just in the moments of crisis, but always.

Because when things get tough (and let’s be honest, they will), you need people. Not just any people—but the right people. The ones who:

✅ Lift you up when you’re running on empty

✅ Call you out (with love) when you’re spiraling

✅ Hold space for your big emotions

✅ Remind you who the hell you are when you forget

And let’s not forget—you get to be that person for them too. That’s the magic of true community. It’s not just about receiving support; it’s about being part of something bigger.

The Those2Sisters Community: A Tribe Like No Other

This is exactly why our community at Those2Sisters is so powerful.

We’re not just a group of women chatting about business strategies (though we do plenty of that too). We’re a sisterhood. A space where women can show up fully—messy, ambitious, overwhelmed, driven, and everything in between—and know they’re not alone.

Because business success means nothing if it comes at the cost of isolation. You don’t have to figure it all out by yourself.

That’s why we built The Rich Lady Revolution - The Membership—to give women a place where they can thrive in business and life, without burning out in the process. It’s not just about strategy and mindset (though we’ve got plenty of that). It’s about connection.

It’s about having a space where you can say, I’m struggling today, and know that someone has your back. A space where you can celebrate your wins—big and small—and be met with genuine joy. A space where you can borrow belief from others on the days you’re running low on your own.

And if you’re looking for something even deeper, something next-level, let me introduce you to The Queens Club.

This is where we take community to a whole new level. Six powerhouse women. Six months of daily connection, support, and mentorship with me and Di. This isn’t just another group—

it’s an intimate container of high-calibre women who are committed to growth, expansion, and deep transformation.

Every day, we’re in each other’s pockets. We move through challenges together, we celebrate the big wins, and we hold each other accountable in a way that only true sisterhood can.

That’s the kind of community that changes lives. And that’s exactly what we’ve created.

Find Your People—And Hold Onto Them

So, if you’re feeling flat, disconnected, or just not okay, I want you to do one thing today:

Reach out to someone.

Send that text. Make that call. Check in with an old friend.

And if you don’t have a community yet—get one.

Find your people. The ones who see you, get you, and hold space for you. Whether that’s through business networks, mum groups, fitness buddies, or something else entirely—build your tribe.

Because no matter how independent, strong, or self-sufficient you are, the truth is this: We are better together.

And when life throws a cyclone your way (literally or metaphorically), you’ll be damn grateful for the ones who show up—chocolate in hand, ready to weather the storm with you.

Stay safe, stay connected, and find your people.

Michelle Anne xx
